Use of bikes, electric bikes & Scooters

May 21, 2025

The Lincoln Park PAL is built on the dedication of individuals who volunteer their time to coach youth sports in our town—from kindergarten through eighth grade. These volunteers take great pride in teaching kids the fundamentals of baseball, softball, soccer, football, cheer, and basketball throughout the entire year.

We are incredibly grateful for both the coaches and the facilities provided to us by the town and the Board of Education.

Recently, through Open Space taxpayer funding, the town installed a beautiful new turf field at Borough Hall. The Lincoln Park PAL uses this field for all its sports, and we’ve received numerous compliments from visiting teams about its quality.

However, over the past two years, an issue has developed that is affecting youth sports practices and games—and we need your help.

Children have been riding bicycles, scooters and electric bikes onto the turf, which is beginning to damage the field. Most of these children are from Lincoln Park, with a few from Pequannock. Despite posted signs prohibiting this activity, the warnings are often ignored. Coaches are routinely forced to interrupt practices to ask these kids to remove their scooters and bikes from the field. This has become a daily issue and needs to stop.

There are cameras at the field, and photos of these incidents have been taken.

We are asking all parents to please speak with your children and remind them not to ride their bicycles, scooters or electric bikes on the turf field. We also ask that you help spread the word to other parents and friends, especially those whose children may not be involved in youth sports and may not receive this message.

The PAL truly appreciates your support and assistance in helping us preserve this valuable community resource for everyone.
